Google Notebook

Given some needs at work, I’ve been trying out various collaboration tools … including Google Notebook. Although this tool does not meet my specific needs, if you are in the market for a free online collaboration tool, check out Notebook.  Here’s why (including some screenshots):

  • Easy user interface … copy and annotate web content
  • Allows you to control with whom you wish to collaborate
  • Searchable via Google

The power of Google Notebook becomes apparent if you need to do collective research. Here is a link to some notebooks with which I am playing around. Just as a fyi … I don’t intend to update these notesbooks; they were created only as a test.

Captain Danielson is Home (Vietnam MIA)

Friday I had the honor to attend both a briefing on Boxer-22, and the military funeral of Captain Ben Danielson (promoted to Major upon confirmation of his death). Via my church's Freedom Tree which was planted in 1973 and has been growing for Captain Danielson, and all MIA's, I have had the fortune to play a small role. The day was amazing, and made me proud to be an American. It was amazing to come out of the church after the service and see over 800 American Flags … 500 of the flags displayed by the Patriot Riders (a group of motorcycle riders … many Vietnam vets). Here is a brief description of each photograph.

Update on October 31, 2007: It has been gratifying to see how often this post is read, and meet many of you privately via email. Given the interest in Major Danielson, Boxer 22, and the story of one Vietnam MIA, I have scanned and posted the program document. Please use in a respectful manner. The sideways format is not a mistake.  This allows for 8×11 color printing in the correct size. (click upon the page numbers in parenthesis for a normal lower resolution view)

JiaYou Gets a School !

I’m tired.  I’m sore, but I’m happy! Earlier today I finished Grandma’s Marathon in 4:11 (80 degrees of brutal heat), and now the kids in JiaYou get their new school ! As of today, $6,500 has been pledged! Take a look below to see me during my run, and post race (with my wife who beat me by 1/2 hour!)
.
Running FinishMollyrichHowever, my Run for China’s Children is only the start of the story … This September, I will trek into the mountains of southern China and personally deliver books to JiaYou’s new school. After all, a new building is nothing but an empty shell without teachers and books! Thus take a look at the photos at the end of this post …

If you want to help me out with my book delivery, send a pledge to rhoeg@comcast.net. In lieu of new cash donations, you are welcome to send books in English or Mandarin which are educationally appropriate for pre-school through the 3rd grade to:

  • Richard Hoeg
  • 3924 Wisconsin Avenue North
  • New Hope, Minnesota  55427  U.S.A.

Used books in excellent condition are welcome.

This September, I will trek into the mountains of southern China and personally deliver the books to JiaYou. After all, a school building is nothing but an empty shell without teachers and books!

The last few weeks have been fun. I’ve received lots of nice media attention.  Over the past few days I’ve been interviewed by multiple newspapers, and will "run for the TV cameras" this afternoon!  With all the attention, I need to constantly remind myself this effort is not about me. It’s about the children and the fine work that the China Tomorrow Education Foundation is doing. I’ll post this weekend after the big race, but the effort never truly ends …
