As you may have heard, a Russian and American satellite recently collided. AGI has put created some great video simulations and graphics that truly demonstrate the problem. You can actually download the videos and graphics directly from AGI's web site. Watch the short video to learn more.

Who Owns the USA? Perhaps China?
For my readers who are United States of America citizens, you need to read this interview (page 1 | page 2) conducted by the Financial Times with the Chinese Prime Minister, Wen Jiabao. Our government is running the printing presses non stop to print money to cover our increased spending. Should China ever insist on repayment of all the US Treasuries they own, it would make America's present economic difficulties seem trivial.
Although this issue should be important to everyone, given my involvement in building schools in rural China, it hits home.
The Social Penguin Web
Sometimes we all get too serious … but this example demonstrates how one may have fun with the social web. For instance, have you ever had the opportunity to view the annual penguin migration on Lake Superior? While I missed this year's migration due to competing in a cross-country ski race 80 miles distant from the migration … my blog participated via the social web! Let me explain:
- Yooper Dailey Blog Reports this Year's Migration
- Media Outlets Pick Up Story
- Folks Google Penguins and Lake Superior, and find this post of mine
What were the famous words of W.C. Fields?! I had a good chuckle. Click to expand either photo.
And to Think I Saw in on Mulberry Street!
Thinking outside the box is required for successful innovation … Google knows this fact and who should greet you upon your Google search today? Dr. Seuss! Try a Google Search on Dr. Seuss … perhaps even click upon "I'm feeling lucky!". Oh yes … my required Wikipedia link!
Cyber Attack … Kapow!
I stumbled upon this resource from the United States Navy Post Graduate school by limiting my Google search to only yield flash files. Given how important security is to any organizations network, I strongly recommend a visit. The learning resources are described in this manner:
- CyberCIEGE enhances information assurance education and training through the use of computer gaming techniques such as those employed in SimCity™. In the CyberCIEGE virtual world, users spend virtual money to operate and defend their networks, and can watch the consequences of their choices, while under attack.
You will find ten brief tutorials which describe in an animated manner cyber attacks ranging from malicious software to why cryptography is often necessary. In addition, a gaming simulation developed by the USN is available free of charge to education institutions. Anyone may download an evaluation copy of the cyber attack simulation game. This resource will be added to the software engineering section of the engineering learning wiki.
