Technology Snippets

None of these sites have enough "meat" to be added to my engineering eLearning search engines, but if what you’re looking for is a quick technology overview … particularly before purchasing a product or service, these video sites are for you!

Finally some family fun from the Northstar Nerd’s household. My son, Erik, uploaded this video he made to YouTube … Cyrus the Cat vs. the Lego Synchro Drive Robot. I am the camera man!

The MacIntosh That Came In From the Cold!

Okay … strange post title … however yesterday’s post about running in the Minnesota cold (-18 F) prompted a comment, and then a pleasant email exchange with one of my blog readers from North Carolina, MurphyMac. He has a great blog with his own Macintosh screencast tutorials.  I’ve since added MurphyMac to both my Google Co-Op master eLearning and screencast specific search engines.

Oh yes … here is the Nerd … post 12 mile run.  Minnesota Nerds are tough!

Cold

Hmm …. I’m marathon training. Today’s schedule calls for a 12 mile run.  Normally, that takes me about 1 hour and 45 minutes. Well … given the temperature (-17 F) and wind (20 mph), according to NOAA’s chart (see image) I’m only allowed outside for 10 minutes. Guess, I need to find a facemask.

A Nerdcast Podcasting Tutorial

I’ve created a podcasting tutorial using Adobe Breeze. This tutorial takes the student through the entire process, from hardware requirements to software selection and usage. In addition, my approach was to demonstrate how to create podcasts using a basic, but professional platform

Enjoy! … and Learn.

You will find more podcasting resources via my Nerdcast blog category. Finally, in my podcast tutorial I mentioned that most podcasts have a musical lead-in. c|Net’s Music.Download.Com is an excellent source of legal, free and safe MP3’s.  You can even browse by category … how about some Appalachian folk music??

Since I first created this tutorial, folks have asked me for additional Audacity support content. Here are links to a support wiki and documentation:

Big Wheel Spikey – Lego Sumo Robotic Championship

You will probably need to install a new video drive to watch this Sumo Lego Robotics Championship, but it will result in a fantastic experience! My 16 year old son and I just watched Big Wheel Spikey lose in the finals. The competitors are a bunch of engineers … not kids!  Actually, let me rephrase that last comment … the competitors are a bunch of over aged kids!

Finally, Stage6 (web site hosting the videos) is a new video service, which appears to be taking online video to a new level. The viewing experience in terms of quality and sourcing was most impressive.
